On Friday, I had prepared a Monster truck lesson for school. Unbeknownst to the boys, we had surprise tickets to go to the Monster truck show at Dallas Cowboys Stadium on Saturday.
It was awesome! We had tickets to a suite, which made the show that much more fun to watch. Those drivers really put on a good show!

Monster Trucks!
Engineers Week
This week was Engineers Week and we headed to the Dallas Science and Nature Museum. They had tables set up throughout the museum with volunteer engineers illustrating different experiments. My favorite was the one with the salt dough circuit.
I signed the boys up for a homeschool class and show. The show was called Superhero science and it provided a first hand look at x-ray vision, bulletproof materials, lasers, invincibility and even levitation! After the show, we headed to the class where the boys were paired up and built simple machines using legos. I got to be Cameron's partner (which was his choice).

Newspaper Publication
Carson's new venture is creating a newspaper. He wrote several news stories and had his 4 year old brother write an article on the Titanic. The things they come up with amuse me daily.
My boy's new website

Carson has been wanting to start a website for a while. He's always building and inventing things and he wanted a place to showcase the things he creates.
This past weekend, I finally took the time to get the site up and running for him. He would love the visitors if you have the time:

Kindergarten Spelling
Cameron started to read about 6 months ago. We read together daily and I try to play a lot of fun phonics games with him. His reading skills are advancing well. Woo Hoo!

George Washington Exhibit
I had to drive to fort worth to get a root canal while my mom watched the boys. Since I was feeling okay afterwards, I took the boys to the George Washington exhibit at the Fort Worth Museum. Wow, what an exhibit! They even signed their names with quill pens.
Swimming Lessons
Here is Cameron at his swimming lesson with his instructor. I was fortunate enough to find a homeschool class at the same time. In the background, that is Carson with his instructor. While Cameron is learning how to swim, Carson is learning a lot of advanced techniques on swimming more efficiently.
Dallas Children's Theater
We met up with a big group of friends to see 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie' at the Dallas Children's Theater. It was such a funny and sweet performance. One of my favorite ones yet!
Waiting...
Hanging out with my baby waiting for Carson's PE class to be finished. We usually play outside while we wait, but it was extremely cold. It's kind of nice when I wait for one child while the other and I can have special one on one time.
For the love of money
Carson recently opened up his own bank account. He is so proud and as soon as he gets any money, he wants to go straight to the bank to deposit it.
He also just finished at finance class called 'Cash Bash'. It was an interesting class for 8-14 year olds where the children had to make financial decisions that impacted their 'business'. He loved it! the instructor is considering creating a 'Cash Bash II'. He made sure to let her know that he was available to help her prepare if she needed it.
Celebrating Abraham Lincoln
We had a fun school day this week celebrating Abraham Lincoln's birthday. School included making a cabin, putting a penny puzzle together and making cornbread among other things. Since Mark was out of town, we took the opportunity to go visit my mom in Fort Worth. It's always nice visiting with Abuela!

Valentine's Party
We had a great time at our homeschool valentines party this year. The boys worked for a couple of weeks on their boxes and both had really creative ideas. I love the homemade circuit light up card the boys surprised me with in the morning.
Carson's 8th Birthday!
My sweet boy turned 8 years in December. All he wanted to do for his birthday was build a spaceship. He created a scaled down model of his design with cardstock and then his dad designed and created a real one using both boys' help. A month later, Mark moved it out of the garage and finally into the yard. This was a really fun project and I am so happy it is finished!
On his birthday, I made a cheesecake per his request and my family came over for short visit to celebrate.
I never could have imagined having such an amazing, thoughtful, creative and smart kid! He is such a joy to be around every day. I am one lucky mom!

Water Pollution
We are currently doing a unit study on human impact on the environment. This week, we discussed water pollution and Carson is testing the effects on plants. Plant A - tap water, Plant B - polluted water that looks clean (tainted with rubbing alcohol), Plant C - polluted water that looks dirty (tainted with laundry soap). He really loves these hands-on experiments!
Valentine's Surprise
The night before, I put together the boy's surprise valentine bags. They were so excited to find these on their school table this morning! But, we still did school before heading to our homeschool Valentine's party...at least I planned a Valentine's inspired lesson!
